(July 18, 2022) Outstanding, precision policing led to Friday night’s arrest of Calvin Howse Jr., 18, his third arrest in less than a month, as he and two other young males, ages 15 and 17, approached a parked carjacked Chevrolet Camaro in a lot behind the YMCA at 2624 Gallatin Pike.

Madison Precinct Officer Coleman McKellar alertly spotted the yellow Camaro, which had been stolen at gunpoint on July 6th from a man parked at the Hampton Inn on Crossing Place in South Nashville. He notified Violent Crimes Initiative detectives who followed the Camaro to the Gallatin Pike parking lot where the three occupants got out and walked to a nearby restaurant. When they returned, detectives arrested them after three brief foot chases. A handgun, that had been stolen on June 24th from an unlocked Ford F-250 pickup truck on Woodland Street, was located near Howse. The pickup truck’s owner had left a spare key in the vehicle which was also taken. The Ford F-250 was recovered on July 7th. A second stolen gun, taken in LaVergne on July 14th, was recovered from the flight path of the 15-year-old.

For last night’s activities, Howse is charged with theft of a firearm and evading arrest. This was Howse’s second arrest in less than a month involving a gun and stolen car. Specialized Investigations Division detectives arrested Howse on June 27th after seeing him driving a stolen 2021 Nissan Sentra. He was charged then with auto theft, felony gun possession and possession of marijuana for resale. He was released on bond in that case and placed on electronic monitoring. Additionally, he was arrested on July 11th for burglary of a motor vehicle. He was released on $10,000 bond in that case. Currently, Howse remains jailed.

The 15-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with joyriding, theft of a firearm, juvenile handgun possession and evading arrest. The 17-year-old, who was in possession of the Camaro keys, is charged in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft and evading arrest.
