William-Lee-Garrison

William Lee Garrison was born to Lonnie and Iona (Palmer) Garrison in Fayette, Alabama in 1931. His mother died when Bill was two years old, so he was raised by his grandmother, helped by a host of aunts and uncles.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, his sister Barbara Garrison Ward, his brother Lomax Garrison, and his daughter Lisa Gayle Garrison Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Drusilla Lynn Wright Garrison. They had been married almost 39 years at his passing. He is also survived by sons, Darryll Lee Garrison and James Cleveland (Christi) Estes; grandchildren Christopher William Garrison, Wendy Michelle (Jeff) Trageser, Joshua Michael (Nicole) Howell, David Ray (Brittany) Howell, Price James Estes, and Anna Claire Estes; Five great-grandchildren, Kaden Ray Howell, William Asher Howell, Maddux Reece Howell, Reagan Elise Howell, and Arryll Lee Trageser; Sisters: Rebecca Ann Mitchell, Myrtle Willadean (Johnny) Greynolds, Vera Nell Garrison; Best friends (almost siblings) of 60+ years, John and Martha Petty.

Bill joined the Army in 1949 and served for 3 ½ years, including a tour in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he spent another year in the Air National Guard.

Bill began working at DuPont in Old Hickory in 1952 and had a total of 34 years of service. He loved working for DuPont and loved all the people he worked with.

Bill could build or repair almost anything related to cars or houses or furniture. When he retired from DuPont in 1994, he decided he had too much energy to sit in a rocking chair, so he started doing handyman work. He loved to work—considered himself a work-a-holic—and he loved people. He was sad when he could no longer physically do the work. He always charged much less than standard rates, and occasionally did work free of charge for people he thought were having a hard time. He even went out in the middle of the night occasionally if it kept someone’s house from flooding. He made so many dear friendships by doing what he loved. His hobby was buying totally wrecked (newer) cars and rebuilding them. He always had people wanting to buy his cars. He taught his sons and grandsons how to do basic maintenance on their cars.

Bill was baptized in 1994. He has attended Old Hickory Church of Christ since 2013.

He loved animals, especially dogs, and almost always had at least one. Most recently Louie was his constant companion, a Dachshund he got in 2013 (thanks to grandson Price).

He never became weary of doing good to others.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5 at 2:00pm, with visitation beginning at noon, at Old Hickory Church of Christ, 1001 Old Hickory Blvd, Old Hickory TN 37138. https://www.alternativecremationandfuneralservice.com
