Wayne Barry Garrison, beloved husband, friend, and adventurer, passed away peacefully in 2025 at the age of 81. Born on January 16, 1944, in Tampa, Florida, Wayne was the cherished son of Robert and Eleanor Garrison.
Wayne built a remarkable career as a manager in the field of computer science, a profession that took him across the United States. Over the years, his work led him to relocate 11 times, giving him the rare experience of living on both the East and West Coasts and numerous places in between. His adaptability, leadership, and calm under pressure earned him the respect of colleagues nationwide.
Outside of his professional life, Wayne was a man of many passions. He found joy and peace in nature, whether it was casting a line while fishing, navigating coastal waters on a sailboat, or snorkeling in clear blue seas. A lover of the outdoors, he also enjoyed camping trips and was rarely seen without a camera in hand, capturing the beauty around him through photography. His adventurous spirit and curiosity for the world made every outing with him an experience to remember. Wayne was a man of faith, formerly serving as a deacon at the Tulip Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Gideons Society.
Wayne’s warmth, wit, and wisdom touched the lives of many. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and love of adventure but also for his generosity, sense of humor, and deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Eleanor Garrison.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Garrison, sisters-in-law Janet (Harvey) Woodman, Karen (Grant) Schoon and a brother-in-law, Dean (Norma, deceased) Synder. nephews, Rev. Josuha Schoon, Rev. Clifford Woodman and Harvey Woodman Jr., nieces, Tricia Giacomini, Mindy Ely and Susan Berry and 20 great nieces and nephews
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday June 18, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00Am at the Tulip Grove Baptist Church, 563 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00AM, with Pastor Estriberto Briton, Rev. Clifford Woodman and Rev. Joshua Schoon officiating.
