Theodore Edward "Ted" Martin, Jr. Obit

Theodore Edward “Ted” Martin, Jr., of Hermitage, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 16, 2024, at the age of 82.

Ted was born on October 25, 1942, to Mary Ethel Alley and Theodore Edward Martin in Kelso, Washington. Ted had a wide variety of life experiences: fighting forest fires, climbing mountains, driving an ambulance, serving in Vietnam as the jeep driver for generals (receiving two Purple Hearts), and after marrying his wife, Becky, becoming a licensed professional land surveyor completing mapping, surveying, and building projects across Tennessee.

After retiring he and Becky enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, traveling, and making countless camping trips with dear friends.

Family and friends will remember Ted for his wonderful, sometimes wacky, sense of humor which brightened every room he entered, his generosity, his love of spirited debate, his tender heart, and his fun-loving personality. Innumerable “Ted stories” will survive him for years.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and left a legacy of the importance of love, hard work, and a deep faith in God. Ted’s life was well-lived despite his injuries, and illnesses: living with MS for 36 years and enduring declining cognitive abilities.

Ted is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 58 years, Rebecca (Becky) Martin, their two children, Emily Sullivan and Paul Martin (Morgan), and six wonderful grandchildren: Levi Martin, Alex Sullivan, Ari Martin, River Martin, Jack Heyer, and Dalton Heyer. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

A celebration of life service will take place at Hermitage Church of the Nazarene on Friday, December 6th, with visitation at 10:00 A.M. and the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in Ted’s name to Alive Hospice, the Wounded Warrior Project, Mercy Ships, or another cause of choice. His family is grateful for the therapists, nurses, and employees of Brighter Days Home Care, Suncrest Home Health, and Alive Hospice of Nashville for their kind, loving care.
