Sandra Jean Scaife-Gray (affectionately known as San) passed away on November 24, 2024.
She was born to Mr. Willie Lee Scaife and Annie Josephine Pierson-Scaife on October 18, 1960, in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
It is through her death that this sad and solemn occasion bring us here today and as a broken-heart affliction now falls upon the loved ones Sandra leaves behind. Although, as a sad occasion but one this family takes strength and joy in because she followed the Lord Jesus Christ diligently in her life and now is going to be home with him. This family knows, as Sandra did, that “God’s grace is sufficient” and will be continuously on all occasions. They also know that in this hour of bereavement and trial, they have the presence and comfort of Him who said, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
She was preceded in death by both her paternal parents, Mr. Willie Lee, and Mrs. Annie Josephine Pierson Scaife.
Sandra grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Fl and attended Pryor Junior High School and Fort Walton Beach High School. She was continually active and played a host of sports like basketball and softball in school and in the community. She was known as a gentle soul but one heck of a softball player with a heart. She graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School and remained in the city and later married Carter Lee Gray and had three children, Alexander Gray, Marcus Gray, and Annie Gray. Through the years she decided to relocate to Nashville, TN where she retired and remained the rest of her days.
Sandra was a kind-hearted, loving and a Godly woman who believed that family matter more than anything else. She loved and adored her children with all her being and worked her hands off to make sure they were provided for and would grow up living a life that was full of love, joy, and most of knowing God. Sandra also gave all her love to her beautiful grandchildren who she adored so dearly. In Nashville, she remained committed to the Lord in every aspect of her life.
She also had a deep affection for her siblings like no other, always praying for them and believing in them no matter what they went through. Through great prayer, studying the Bible and encouraging others, she touched so many lives that she encountered. There was not a person she met that she did not encourage them in the Lord. Sandra, whose death we now lament possessed many beautiful and Godly qualities of mind and heart, not only to the family circle but to those who she rarely knew, and acquaintances and friends.
Her mind was active, inquisitive, and conscientious: her disposition was amiable and affectionate, and her words and manners again were gentle and contagiously Godly. Her strongest hobbies were softball, basketball, and studying the Bible. She was Baptist by faith and was baptized at Beulah First Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
She left us suddenly, her thoughts were impactful, and she left many wonderful and beautiful memories that we all are proud to own and live out daily. So, treasure our sweet Sandra dear Lord, in your garden of rest, for a while she was here on earth and did her absolute best, now in your arms we release her where she will gain her crown of glory.
Sandra is survived by her three children: Alexander Gray (oldest, Marcus Gray (middle), and Annie Gray (youngest). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ni’jah Gray, Trevonn Gray, and Eryanna Gray (Alexander Gray children), Cyrus and Novah Strother (Alexander Gray grandchildren, and Sandra’s great-grandchildren and Axiver Swain (Annie Gray child).
Siblings: James Edward Scaife, Willie Earl Scaife, Betty Jean Scaife-Leflore, and Jo Anne Scaife, and Tamika Michelle Scaife. Stepmother and step siblings: Gracie B. Jackson (stepmother), Aretha Mims and Clarence Mims. And a host of beautiful nieces and nephews.
In-Laws: Mary Lee Gray (mother-in-law) and the Gray family.
Other Family members: Aunt Annie Doris Scaife and children: Gloria Scaife, Kimberly Scaife-Jones, and Jefferey Scaife. Uncles: Leroy Scaife and Charlie Scaife and all their children. Other cousins: the Carter Family, the Anderson Family, and the Scaife family. She adored her cousin Mary Elizabeth Scaife as though she was a sister.
