OBITUARY: Robert Thomas “Sonny” Johnson

Robert “Sonny” Thomas Johnson, age 82, passed away on July 28, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Wanda Johnson; children, Tony Johnson, April Raines, and Heather Johnson; grandchildren, Brianna Johnson, Arionna Soard, Ashley Soard, Ryan Raines, Aubrey Harbaugh, Hunter Johnson, and Evan Raines; sisters, Eva Rushing and Judy Wilkerson; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clyde Johnson and Margaret Burrows Johnson; sisters, Mary Elaine Johnson, Margaret Pruett, Patricia LaRue; brothers, Ralph Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Walter Johnson, and Richard Johnson; nephews, John Morrison, Jon Gelp; and niece Sable Wilkerson.

Sonny worked for Metro Public Works for 30 years. He loved Tennessee Titans football and was an avid model car collector.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Western Hills Church, 7565 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209, with David Estes officiating. Burial will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Western Hills Church.
