Robert Eugene Sparrow, known as Bob, passed away on September 4, 2024, in Nashville, TN.
He was born on January 27, 1941, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Gale and Arvilla Eddy Sparrow, who predeceased him.
Bob was a talented and well-known figure in the music industry. After starting his career as a DJ in Mankato, Minnesota, he moved to Nashville in 1969. There, he worked for Acuff-Rose as an artist manager, ran the newsletter Showtime Talent, and became a successful concert promoter. Bob managed numerous renowned acts, including Johnny Cash, Barbara Mandrell, Hank Williams Jr., Dolly Parton, Charlie Daniels, Minnie Pearl, Little Jimmy Dickens, Mel McDaniel, and many more. He also owned a bus tour company showcasing celebrity homes and notable sites like the Grand Ole Opry. Later, he pursued a successful career in real estate.
In addition to his professional achievements, Bob was deeply involved in his community. He was known for his caring and giving nature, befriending the Kurdish community in Nashville and assisting them in starting businesses and buying homes. Bob was also passionate about singing in the Christ Church choir and was a devoted fan of the Tennessee Titans.
He is survived by his son, Robert Jason Sparrow (Julie); his daughter, Cynthia “Cyndy” Louise Sparrow Lee (Larry); his grandchildren, Kyle Lee (Kim), Brennon Lee (Olivia), Braden Sparrow, Logan Sparrow, and his great-grandson, Bennett Lee; his brother, Don Sparrow (Marti); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his siblings Patricia Schroeder, Carolyn Custer, and Gracia Weyer. He also leaves behind his former spouse, Patricia Sparrow.
A visitation will be held on September 9, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Christ Church Wallace Chapel, located at 15354 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN. The service will follow at 2:00 PM, with burial at 3:00 PM at the Christ Church Memorial Gardens. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Bob’s name. He will be remembered fondly for his vibrant personality, his generosity, and his favorite saying, “I’m glad you got a chance to see me!”
