Richard-Dick-Sittel

Richard “Dick” Sittel was born in 1943 and passed away on September 25, 2024 at his home with Suzi by his side following a 2 year courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

He was a native Nashvillian and grew up in the Melrose area of Nashville with his parents Chester and Norna Sittel and his older brother Chester; all of whom preceded him in death.

Dick graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1961. It was there that he met the love of his life, Suzanne “Suzi” Lasley. It took a while, but eventually they were married and created a wonderful life together along with their two sons, Scott and Chris.

Following his high school graduation, Dick enrolled at Tennessee Tech. He graduated with a degree in accounting from MTSU and later became a CPA. Dick served in the Army for two years, half of that time was spent in Vietnam. He was Honorably Discharged in 1968.

He enjoyed his work as a CPA, first working for Genesco and then a long stint working for NES. He eventually retired from NES in 2004, having risen to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

Dick loved and enjoyed many things: gardening, photography, technology, videotaping family events, and traveling with friends and family. He was perhaps most comfortable enjoying a bottle of wine or a can of beer along with a good cigar with family and friends on the screened-in porch, or vacationing with family, friends, and dogs on St George’s island.

Dick was quick to laugh and even quicker to help those in need. Throughout the years, he and Suzi opened their home for many gatherings—Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Palm Sunday along with countless other celebrations in the lives of their friends and family. Dick was always the perfect host whether carving the turkey, taking pictures, or making his traditional chicken noodle soup on Christmas Eve.

Dick loved his church. He was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Suzi, along with Scott and Chris, are very appreciative of the support they have felt from their church family.

In addition to the love of his life, Suzi, his wife of 50 yrs: Dick is also survived by his two sons Scott (Nora) of White Bluff Tn.,and Chris (Mary) of Lobelville, Tn., as well as his sister-in-law Carol Sittel of Kingsport, Tn. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of whom loved him dearly.

The world is a better place for having Dick in it for 80 years. He will be greatly missed by his many, many friends and family. His was truly a life well lived.

Memorials to Dick may be made to: Holy Trinity Montessori School (Carol Miller Fund). 8031 Pink Tower Road. Nashville, TN 37221 or… Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 525 Sneed Road. Nashville, TN 37221.
