Rachael Chandler Settle, lovingly known as “Granny Momma,” age 95, of Dover, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025. Born on June 27, 1929, in Evansville, Indiana, to Daisy Miller and James Omar Chandler, Rachael lived a life rooted in family, resilience, and unwavering love.
Rachael married the love of her life, Charles Albert Settle, Sr., in 1956, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring devotion. A graduate of high school and a dedicated telephone operator for Bell South in her earlier years, Rachael also embraced the vital role of homemaker. Her greatest joy came from nurturing generations of her family and keeping their history alive.
A passionate genealogist and natural storyteller, Rachael cherished recounting tales from days gone by—of family, of community, of love that stood the test of time. She survived cancer with a spirit that was as strong as it was graceful and led multi-family reunions for decades, bringing kin together across states and seasons.
Rachael had a particular fondness for classic John Wayne movies and never missed an episode of NCIS. She was a proud member of the Asbury Music Club in Dover, where her love for community and music found an outlet.
She is survived by her beloved children, Charles Albert Settle, Jr., and Patricia Settle (Randy) Burke; grandchildren Brandy (Donny) Burke-Truebenbach and Timothy James Burke; great-grandchildren Dalton Davenport, Destiny Davenport, Olivia Trubenbach, and Rachael Trubenbach; and great-great-grandchild Elijah Pugh.
She now joins in eternal rest her dear husband, Charles Albert Settle, Sr. (2018), her grandson Chandler Neal Settle (2020), and her parents, Daisy Miller and James Omar Chandler.
A celebration of Rachael’s life will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with the service to follow at 2:30 PM. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
Rachael’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and family legacy. She leaves behind stories that will be passed on for generations—just the way she would have wanted.
A Cabin for a Mansion
While some hope for gleaming mansions
Just off of the streets of gold
In a place where no one suffers
Where no one ever grows old.
While some hope for an endless chorus
And a presence near a throne
Just to be a part of forever
And to see the great unknown
While some will seek the apostles
Among that heavenly throng
Just to ask life’s greatest questions
They’ve pondered for so, so long
But one will hope for a cabin,
Just gravel that leads to a home
And a porch that won’t be empty
Just a place she won’t be alone
That one will hope for a guitar
And the songs we all used to hear
With the sounds of the wind in the background
And the colorful birds and the deer
That one will seek out her soulmate
She’ll ignore the apostles and throng
Just to hug that man she’s missed so much
And yearned to be with for so long
Though we all have different visions
Of what it will be like above
Before the mansions and streets of gold
We can all learn from Rachael’s love.
