Patricia Kelley McDowell

Patricia Kelley McDowell, 86, also known as “Granny” by her grandchildren and “Granny Pat” by her great-grandchildren, passed away on October 16, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Patricia was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 21, 1934, to parents, James A. and Eunice (Bradley) Kelley.

Patricia had many interests and hobbies including sewing, cooking, gardening, and quilting. She especially excelled at being a great cook. Patricia was always busy doing something. Even as a full-time homemaker, when her children -were in school, she drove their school bus and worked in the school cafeteria to be involved in their lives. Patricia was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and spent most of her life helping other people in so many ways, including babysitting their children and became a rescuer of dogs. Of all her interests, her priority was her family . . . and she LOVED her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Eunice (Bradley) Kelley; her son, Clarence A. (Petey) Tawater, III; her granddaughter, Sarah Kelley McDowell; and her eight siblings.

Patricia is survived by Dan H. McDowell, Sr., her husband of 63 years; daughter, Trish Polman (Kurt Mohr); daughter, Susan McDowell Taylor (Bill); son, Dan McDowell, Jr. (Debi); granddaughters, Kelly Neyland (Dave), Taylor Blackman Lidster (Matt), Savannah Cordle-Craig (Tyler); grandsons, Matthew Polman, Jason Polman (Cassidy), Wesley McDowell (Sarah), Jacob McDowell, Brooks Taylor; great-grandchildren, Elise Polman, Jackson Neyland, Andrew Neyland, Halina Cordle-Craig; special friends, Carolyn Strickland, J.R. Sielbeck; and her precious dog, Mickey.

There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home from 11 am – 1 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow in the chapel at 1 pm. Mrs. McDowell will be entombed in her final resting place in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the Celebration of Life.

The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mark Stubblefield and his staff, who has been her physician since he opened his medical practice; and, to Alive Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alive Hospice.
