Opal Tean Gillian Godwin, 83, of Griffin, died Monday, February 2, 2026, at her home.
Born in Altoona, AL, August 15, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe Cecil and Nellie Nix Gillian. Mrs. Godwin stayed home raising her children until her husband of twenty-eight years, Seabern Richard Godwin, Sr. died in 1983. She moved from Alabama to Georgia where her family was closer and began working to take care of her last two children that were at home. She retired from Spalding Regional Medical Center where she worked in housekeeping. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Godwin was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been one of six children.
Survivors include children, Marvin Chester Godwin and his wife of Hueytown, AL, Barbara Godwin Smith and husband Steve of Columbia, TN, Richard Paul Godwin and wife Debra of Hueytown, AL, Seabern Richard Godwin, Jr. of Griffin and Adam Clay Godwin and wife Tenisha of Albuquerque, NM. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Opal Tean Gillian Godwin will be conducted Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
