Mary Elizabeth Langley Haley Wallick, affectionately known throughout most of her life as ‘Mary Haley’, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 22, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born on July 16, 1932, in Spring Hill, Tennessee, Mary was known for her strength, generous heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family.
Her hands were never idle; her heart was ever true.
For more than 30 years, Mary faithfully served as Assistant Director of Personnel Division for the State of Tennessee traveling throughout the state administering examinations. She worked hard, laughed often, and quietly cared for others.
She believed in helping others and giving of herself whenever she saw a need. She served with the American Legion Auxiliary and spent several years volunteering with the Association of Former Prisoners of War in Romania, preparing monthly newsletters and maintaining its membership database.
She found joy in life’s simple blessings. Mary loved tending her flower gardens, growing vegetables, canning, and harvesting honey from her bees. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family, friends, and neighbors.
She also loved to laugh. Family members never knew when she might be hiding around a corner just to make someone jump. Her playful spirit, quick wit, and contagious laughter brought smiles to generations of family and friends.
Above all else, Mary was a devoted mother. She raised three daughters to become strong, independent, and loving women, leading far more by example than by words. Throughout her life she taught the importance of hard work, personal responsibility, and perseverance. Those lessons continue through the generations of family who were blessed to call her Mama, Granny, and GiGi.
Mary was also known as the person people called when they needed help. Whether offering encouragement, preparing a meal, opening her home, or simply doing laundry for former employees who were struggling, she quietly served others with a generous heart.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Lisa Lynne Hartman (Mike Sr.), Debbie Sue White (Charles), and Julie Elizabeth Warpool (Shane); her sister, Wanda Watts; her grandchildren, Courtney Lynne Baker (Matthew), Jessica Leah May (Brian), Michael Hartman, Jr. (Hannah), Cameron Russell White (Alicia), and Chloe Amethyst Rose; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Haley May (Caleb), Jackson Baker, Sarah May (Leland), Kenzie Baker, JC May, Carter White, Loren White, Hudson White, and three additional Hartman great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband and the father of her children, Wyatt Loyd Haley; her husband, Wilmer Scott Wallick; her parents, Albert Eugene Langley and Lela E. Gardner Langley; brothers, Alvin “Pete” Langley, Thomas “Buck” Langley, sisters, Thelma Jean Byrd and Nellie J. Stephens; half-brothers, Tyree, Perry, Bill and William “Mum” Langley and half-sister, Polly Burt.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the devoted caregivers who became part of Mary’s extended family—Ashley Mitchell, Jennifer McPherson, Donna Brewer, Kay Carter and her team, and several precious others over the years. Their compassionate care, friendship, and unwavering support brought comfort not only to Mary, but to all who loved her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary’s life at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel in Nashville. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Garden of the Last Supper.
The family welcomes floral tributes as a beautiful reflection of Mary’s love of gardening. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to organizations supporting individuals living with dementia or Down syndrome.
Though our hearts grieve her absence, we find peace in knowing she has been welcomed into her eternal home. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, the flowers she grew, the laughter she shared, and the countless acts of kindness she quietly gave throughout her life.
