Mary Ann Edwards Rathburn, 74 years of age, passed away peacefully in her home on January 13, 2025.
Mary Ann was born on July 12, 1950, in Nashville, TN to the late Ben Edwards and Myrtle Parker Edwards. She was the older sister of Peggy Stewart, who she loved dearly and lived next door to.
Mary Ann married the love of her life, Earl Louie Rathburn, on June 26, 1970, and the two spent 54 years together in a happy marriage filled with friendship and unconditional love. In their later years, they loved sitting in their recliners together, watching old films, and smiling at pictures that came across their electronic picture frame of their family. She was always so proud of Louie’s accomplishments as a fireman.
Mary Ann and Louie had one child, James Rathburn, who she absolutely adored. James and Renee gave Mary Ann her two grandsons, Grayson and Grant, who were her pride and joy. She was always so proud of the men they were and loved hearing about their lives. Grayson and Grant recently gave Mary Ann her first two great granddaughters, Harlow James & Ivy Mae, who brought so much joy to Mary Ann in her last year of life.
Mary Ann worked at the Metro Board of Education and thoroughly enjoyed the work she did. Mary Ann loved her church family at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ. She loved her cat Boo and treated Boo like a baby. Mary Ann loved elephants and had a large collection of them around her home from figurines to blankets.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Louie Rathburn; son, James (Renee) Rathburn; grandchildren, Grayson (Mackenzie) Rathburn and Grant (Caroline) Rathburn; great-grandchildren, Harlow James Rathburn and Ivy Mae Rathburn; sister, Peggy (Bob) Stewart; and nephews, Ben (Amy) Stewart and Jason (Maria) Stewart.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (visitation 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) by Wendell Byrd at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Interment Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will consist of Mary Ann’s grandsons and nephews: Grayson Rathburn, Grant Rathburn, Jeff Tobin, Kevin Corbit, Jason Stewart, and Ben Stewart.
