Maribel May Joesten, 92, passed away on March 10, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Gerald and Gertrude Hicks, sister Alice, brother Bill, and her husband of 68 years, Mel Joesten.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ellen Frick (Paul): son, Charles Joesten (Adrienne); four grandchildren, Nathan (Amber) Frick, John (Ashley) Frick, Annika Joesten, Zander Joesten; six great-grandchildren, Reese Frick, Zella Frick, Dorothy Frick, John Oliver Frick, Grace Reid, Jackson Reid; sister Nancy and brother Jim. and many nieces and nephews.
Maribel was born and raised on a farm near Sublette, Illinois. She attended a one-room school through eighth grade, followed by graduation from Amboy High School.
Maribel met Mel at Northern Illinois State Teachers College (now Northern Illinois University) during her freshman year and they were married in December of their senior year.
Maribel taught pre-school at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 1975 until she retired in 1998. For many years after she retired, parents and former pre-schoolers, would see her at Kroger and stop to talk to her. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family at the beach in Cherry Grove, SC in the summer and in Sanibel, FL in the winter. She also enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, and reading.
Maribel was a big Cubs fan and loved watching baseball games on TV and taking trips to Wrigley Field. She enjoyed singing and was a long-time member of Sweet Adelines.
She was a member Calvary United Methodist Church for over fifty years and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
A celebration of life will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Road. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
