Leonard D. Liddle Sr., 94, of Mt. Juliet passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Leonard cherished his family above all else. He shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara, building a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment.
As a proud father, he led by example teaching the values of hard work, kindness and resilience. His pride and joy extended to his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Who he adored and loved watching grow.
Leonard served his country with honor as a veteran of the Marine Corps, carrying with him the discipline and integrity that would shape his life. He was involved in one of the worst battles of The Korean War. The Chosin Reservoir where 8,000 Marines were surrounded by 120,000 Chinese troops. Only 2000 U.S. soldiers escaped with their lives. They are called the“Chosin Frozen”. His company, D Battalion 5th Marines was leading this attack when the Chinese came into the Action. Mr. Liddle was a gunner on an Air Caliber 30 caliber machine gun. The temperature reached 40 below zero and never got above zero. This was the coldest Korean winter in 100 years.
After his military service, he found peace and purpose in opening and operating Liddle Brothers Contractors Inc. and farming, embracing the beauty of nature and the satisfaction of honest labor. Whether tending the land or enjoying a quiet meal at I Hop he found joy in life’s simple moments.
Those who knew Leonard will remember him for his steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering dedication to his family and faith. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love he so freely gave. A life well lived, a man deeply loved, Leonard’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Liddle; children David (Donna) Liddle, Dee (Michael) Taylor and son Dwight Liddle.; grandchildren Cody (Cassie) Liddle and Mikayla Taylor; great-granddaughter Charlotte Kate Liddle and brother Bobby (Anita) Liddle. Also many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Mr. Liddle is preceded in death by his parents David and Helen Liddle, and his three sisters Margaret Collier, Leona Payne and Dot Gleaves.
Gathering of family and friends Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Hibbett and Hailey Funeral Home. Friday, March 21, 2025 friends and family will gather from 12:00-1:00 pm at The Glade.
