OBITUARY: Kathleen O Mays

Mrs. Kathleen Burgess O’Mara Mays age 103 passed away November 27, 2024. She was born February 15, 1921 on a Tuesday in Bessemer, AL.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. O’Mara and Minnie Boner O’Mara; her husband, Carl W. Mays; son, Randall A. “Randy” Mays; brother, William “Bill” T. O’Mara; sister, Anne O’Mara Griffin.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Belva Thiessen Mays; niece, Sharon O’Mara Goodwin; nephews, Charles “Charlie” R. Griffin, David F. Griffin and Rodney “Rod” L. (Mary) O’Mara.

Kathleen moved to Tennessee at the age of 2.5 years old because of her health. She had tuberculosis putting her in a cast from her neck to hips, until she started school.

She graduated from Litton High School in 1939 where she majored in Latin. She went on to work at DuPont Plant in Old Hickory, TN as a Latin Typist. While there she met her husband, Carl.

They married August 6, 1938, in Bowling Green, KY and lived in Madison until his death November 25, 1996. They had one son, Randall Alan Mays who was born September 19, 2009. He married Belva Lou Thiessen on May 24, 1974.

Kathleen retired from DuPont Company; she was a member of City Road Chapel UMC in Madison, TN and Order of Easter Star, Madison No. 479. She always said she was 39 and holding.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 1:00pm at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Rd, Nashville 37216 with Billy Duke officiating.
