John Russell Carswell, 84, of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025.
He was born on February 2, 1941, to Frank and Ora Cullop Carswell in Abingdon, VA. John was married to Rita Sloan Carswell for 42 years.
John is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ezra. He is survived by his wife; son, Kevin Carswell (Heather); daughter, Trisha Burns; stepson, Michael Vaden (Linda); stepdaughter, Michele Jarrett (Tommy); 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
John attended East Tennessee State University. He was a top salesman for Life and Casualty, American General, and AIG life insurance companies for over 40 years. He was active in politics, supporting multiple campaigns and serving as voting precinct inspector. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, watching sports, and caring for his Japanese koi pond.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at noon at Woodbine Funeral Home-Hickory Chapel (5852 Nolensville Road). Burial is at Christ Church Memorial Gardens (15478 Old Hickory Blvd) after the service.
