Joe Huey Bandy Jr., of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 93 on Friday, January 24th, 2025 at Alive Hospice, Nashville.

Born in Nashville on November 11th, 1931, to Joe H. Bandy Sr. and Marguerite Noel, Joe grew up with his older sister Jane camping, fishing, playing basketball and football, and enjoying his friends at Woodmont Christian.

Joe was always energetic and gregarious, and he loved to play as hard as he worked. After graduating from Duncan Preparatory School, attending Vanderbilt briefly, and serving as a Sargeant in the Air Force National Guard, he eventually found his calling in business, as a service station owner in Green Hills. He was a successful businessman and enjoyed giving back to his community as an active citizen and leader. Throughout his life, he served as President of the Service Station Dealers of America, as an advocate for Crime Stoppers, as treasurer and entertainment director for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and as a loyal member of Woodmont Christian. He was a giving dad and grandpa, a fun-loving uncle, a loyal friend, a demanding but compassionate boss, a lover of food and drink, a gambler, and a ruthless deal maker.

In his retirement, he enjoyed dining with friends and family, and traveling with his RV, especially to Florida where he could enjoy the full sun, the ocean, and his fill of seafood. He also loved his friends and the staff at the Blakeford, despite his grumpiness about the food. Lest we remember him only in his waning moments, recall that he was an alive and forceful character, a person of action and vitality, with a very large, if mortal, heart.

He is survived by Donna Cummings (partner), Joe H. Bandy, III (son), Pamela Hicks (son’s partner), Ava and Iris Bandy (grandchildren), Carolyn and Dick Hill (niece and spouse), and Beverly and David Buerstetta (niece and spouse). He is preceded in death by Elizabeth “Betty” Bandy (spouse) and Jane and Burt Eubank (sister and brother-in-law).

The family would like to thank all of those who took care of him and eased his passing in the final month of life, including all the wonderful doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt Cardiology and the nursing and support staff of Alive Hospice. They all showed him incredible compassion and support.

The memorial service will take place on Friday, February 21st, 2025 at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home and Cemetery (1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210). Friends and family will begin gathering at 1 pm with a service at 2 pm and interment at 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please provide memorial gifts to Alive Hospice, Nashville (www.alivehospice.org).
