In Loving Memory of James “Skippy” W. Southerland

January 15th, 1938 – January 29th, 2025

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear father, James “Skippy” W. Southerland. Born on January 15th, 1938, in Nashville, TN, Dad was the sweet, loving, and easy-going soul we all cherished.

He was the humble heart of our family, always ready with a warm smile and gentle words. His love for woodworking filled our homes with treasures crafted by his own hands—each piece a testament to his talent and the care he poured into everything he did. We remember the countless walks we shared, where he taught us to appreciate the simple joys of life.

Dad was a proud member of the Masons, the Jaycees, and part of the Shriners. His commitment to these communities showed us the importance of fellowship and service. He carried these values into our family life, teaching us about humility and kindness through his actions.

He was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Loy Southerland, his parents Jessee and Leila Southerland, and his siblings Ann, Sarah, Jane Hedge, Bobby, and Buddy Southerland.

He leaves behind his adoring daughters: Sharon (Tim) Eubanks, Donna (Anthony) Douglas, and Kathy (Apollo) Vicente. Grandad’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Hadlea and Jamie Eubanks, Robert Douglas, Shanna Douglas-Mitchell, Matthew and Alexa Vicente, and Gabriella Gomez; great-grandchildren, Keyden Parker, Arabella Gomez, and Armani Gomez. Each of us carries a piece of his heart and the lessons he shared.

As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories of his gentle spirit and the love he gave so freely. Rest easy, Dad—we’ll keep your legacy of sweetness and humility alive in our hearts.
