James Robert “Jim” Johnson, 72, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on October 27, 2024.

Jim was born September 14, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Horton and Nancy Johnson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Horton Johnson, Nancy Chasteen Johnson, and sister, Brenda Hibbard, and special granny, Ruth Johnson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are loving wife of 36 years, Doris Johnson, children Shelley Coole and Jeremiah (Gabby) Johnson, nieces Leslie Muller and Jina Bolin, grandchildren Cason, Charley, Finley, and soon to arrive, Cora.

Jim devoted his life to the Lord in his 30s and shared his faith openly with his friends and family. He found a special place to share his love of music and his Lord and Savior by sharing his musical talents at the Nashville Rescue Mission.

Jim also worked with the prison ministry and would eventually meet his “Special Lady,” his wife Doris, while serving with this mission group.

Jim loved music from the time he was a child. He played guitar and sang lead in several bands. Most notably, he was the eponymous leader of the J. Johnson Band and produced a couple of albums. Jim’s career with NDI spanned over 20 years where he worked as a DOT manager. Previous to his time there, he worked at Opryland as a security guard for the theme park and hotel.

Jim was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family. Jim was the quintessential patriarch of the Johnson family; a loving, caring husband, father, and friend. He used his gift of music to bring people together and express his love for his family and friends. His quiet, steady presence and loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
