OBITUARY: James Kevin Bailey

James Kevin Bailey was born to the late Charles Bailey and Christine Claybrooks Bailey on May 9, 1959. He departed this life on October 28, 2022, at Nashville’s Veteran Administration Hospital.

He leaves to mourn: children, Charles (Candace), Joshua, Sarah and Samuel (Lisa); siblings, Richard (MaLinda), Kathy Price (Dewitt), Thelma, Vivian Johnson, Duane and George Sims; fiancé, Shandra Lewis; aunts, Jackie Banks (Harvey) and Dolores Singley of South Carolina; devoted cousins, Carnell Claybrooks and Thomas Pratt, Jr.; devoted friends, Michael Byrd, Tony Lewis and a host of other relatives and friends.

He graduated from McGavock High School and majored in auto diesel, welding, brick laying and woodworking.

James accepted Jesus as his Savior early in life. He joined Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and sang in the male chorus, he participated in testimony services, volunteered for church fundraisers, traveled with the male chorus, performed maintenance repairs in the church at no charge and encouraged the members to fellowship and learn more about Christian life.

He served 4 years in the U.S. Army as a food service specialist. He received a Marksman Rifle Award and a Motor Transport Award and exited the military with a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions.

Kevin is loved by his family! He loved his family just as much as we loved him. He was a great asset to the family and supported us by ANY means necessary while leaving no stones unturned! He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, dancing, skating, exercising, card playing, car racing, football games, watching western movies, telling jokes and was well known for his unique laugh that brought a smile to everyone in his presence.

The family of the late James Kevin Bailey would like to thank the dynamic staff at Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital, the Staff at AHC Cumberland Manor Nursing Home, Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, family and friends for all acts of kindness and generosity by praying, sending cards, telephone calls, providing food and comforting words during these difficult days. Thank you for your presence during these final rites. We have the assurance from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that He will keep us in perfect peace.
