James H. Brown, 93, passed away on August 2, 2024 in Atlanta, GA.
Born in Nashville on November 14, 1930, Mr. Brown was a 1948 graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy and of Vanderbilt University in 1952.
He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Bernita Kirshner Brown of Nashville; brother, Morris Brown Jr. of Nashville; and his parents, Morris Brown, Sr., of Nashville, and Danelle Weinbaum Brown of Nashville.
A consummate gentleman, loyal friend, and loving husband and father, Jimmie was a respected and successful Nashville businessman and then financial advisor. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1954, Mr. Brown managed, and co-owned H. Brown & Co. Furniture Store and Fashion Furniture located on Lower Broadway in Nashville, along with their sister stores, Banner Furniture in Nashville and Brennan’s Furniture, Clarksville, TN. At 49 he began a new career as a retail banker with First American National Bank, where he rose to Senior Executive VP as of his retirement.
Marrying his childhood sweetheart on Valentine’s Day, 1952, he spent the next 64 years in a remarkable union of love and support. He spent every day telling his Bernita how beautiful she was.
Jimmie is survived by his sons, Jim Maxka (Chris), of Littlestown, PA; Daniel B. Brown (Myra) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Valerie Seidner of Israel; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2024 at The Temple Cemetery, 2001 15th Ave. North, Nashville, TN.
