George Bryant Hagan, M.D., 96, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and entered into the kingdom of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
George was born on January 6, 1929 to Joseph Merwyn and Gertrude Bryant Hagan in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
George moved to Nashville, Tennessee with his family and later graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1947. After attending George Peabody College in Nashville, he matriculated to medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, graduated, and received his medical license in 1953. During this time, he served in the Reserve Officer’s Training Core (ROTC) of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1952.
He trained for three years in residency at Saint Thomas in Nashville and one year at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He then served for two years as Captain in the United States Army at Fort Meade, Maryland where he was honorably discharged in 1959. Dr. Hagan joined Dr. William J. Card and later Drs. Beck, High, and Daugherty in the private practice of Internal Medicine. He diligently served the community of Madison for 39 years as a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with support from his long-time nurse, Ruby Daniel.
Dr. Hagan married Mary Lucille Fandrich in 1955 and they raised three children: Joe, Mary Jane, and John. The family attended First Baptist Church, Madison where he sang in the choir and was a deacon. Dr. Hagan enjoyed taking his children to Krystal and the Tennessee State Fair yearly with his father. He found great pleasure in gardening, fishing, singing, and the yearly family vacation. After losing Mary Fandrich to illness, he married Mary Ann Gourley in 2000. He moved his church membership to First Baptist in Goodlettsville to be with Mary Ann. Together they traveled and spent a quarter of a century hosting numerous gatherings in their home as the family expanded throughout their years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Joe and Harry, his sister Ella Mitchell Annest (Conn), and many other family members and dear friends.
Dr. Hagan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hagan; Joseph Fandrich Hagan (Cheri);
Mary Jane Hagan Evans (Rick); and Dr. John Bryant Hagan (Julianne).

Dr. Hagan’s family grieves their loss on earth but rests in the knowledge that George is now rejoicing for all eternity with his heavenly Father.
“But may the God of all grace, who called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To him be the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:10 (NKJV)
