Edward S. Parker passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
He was born in Mobile, Alabama on September 9, 1924.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was on the USS New Orleans. He fought in eleven major battles in the South Pacific.
He was married to Ruth Elizabeth Spain for 72 years before her death five years ago. In addition to her, he was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah “Debbi” Parker and his son, Jonathan Edward Parker.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Parker-Stembridge; grandson, Jon Parker (Lisa); granddaughter, Melissa Huller (Don); granddaughter, Kimberly Bogar; three step-grandchildren, David, Brian and Michelle; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Diane Parker.
He will be remembered for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many people. But he will be remembered mainly for the Christian life he lived and the example he set.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. (visitation 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, by Morris Stout, Kevin Ulmet and Jimmy Blackman. Interment with Military Honors at Woodlawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Ambassadors Sunday School Class at First Church of the Nazarene and the Agape Sunday School Class at Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene.
