Dr. Paul Brooks Langford, age 94 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024.
He was a native of Lockesburg, Arkansas.
Paul received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University. He completed his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Paul married his wife Beverly in 1959 and moved to Nashville in 1962. The Langfords were members of Crieve Hall Church of Christ since 1962. Paul joined the Lipscomb University faculty in 1962. He taught organic chemistry at Lipscomb for 33 years, rising to the rank of full professor and serving as Chemistry Department chair from 1980 until he retired from teaching in 1994. In his role as chair of the Premed Advisory Committee, he recruited and mentored many premed students who would go on to have successful medical careers. Many of his students remembered him and his influence years after graduating.
Paul Langford had a committed love for Christ, his family, and his friends. To his family, he was a source of strength, guidance, and a living example of a life of faith. He was a calm, grounded, and good-natured man who quietly inspired and helped everyone around him. Paul had a special affection for dogs, enjoyed reading about science and history, and liked sitting on his porch watching the birds. He was a skilled carpenter and woodworker who built houses, many pieces of furniture, and turned pens. His influence and impact are widely and deeply felt.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Beth Langford; grandson, Adam (Michelle) Sisk; son-in-law Michael Sisk; and nephew, John (Barbara) Miles. He is also survived by other close family members including brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Brooks Langford and Sarah “Bernie” Potts Langford; beloved wife, Beverly; daughter, Martha Langford Sisk; and sister, Marcia Miles.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. (visitation 9-10 a.m.) at Crieve Hall Church of Christ, 4860 Trousdale Drive by Andy Connelly and Bill Watkins. Internment Christ Church Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers: Elders and Deacons of Crieve Hall Church of Christ.
