Mr. Buddy Meachum of Antioch in Davidson County died at his Hickory Woods East home on Tuesday afternoon October 8, 2024 with his loving wife at his bedside. He was pronounced deceased at the age of 81 at 12:01 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Nashville who had been assisting the family during his illness.
Mr. Meachum had pre-arranged with the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home to have his cremation performed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. The family will have a memorial service to be announced and he will be buried with his other family members in the Meachum family lot in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
He was one of two sons and a daughter born to the late William Doyle Meachum who died on January 17, 2013 at the age of 96 and Cora Elizabeth Evans Meachum who died June 8, 2009 at the age of 87 and was born Doyle Edward Meachum in Nashville on November 1, 1942. His brother, William Campbell (Billy) Meachum, preceded him in death at the age of 62 on March 11, 2003.
On December 31, 1990 he was united in marriage in Gatlinburg to Indianapolis, Indiana native, the former Sharon Elaine Jones. Mr. Meachum was reared in the Town of Baxter in Putnam County and was a 1960 graduate of the Baxter Seminary. He was of the Missionary Baptist faith.
Mr. Meachum proudly served our country with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, with the rank of Airman 2nd Class. He attended school from July of 1960 thru June of 1961 training at Lackland Air Force Base as a Crypto Specialist. For his meritorious service from 1960-1963 he was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal for his service in Italy in Western Europe. In June of 1966 he was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman 2nd Class from McGuire Air Force Base in North Hanover in Burlington County, New Jersey. His total overseas service was six years.
Mr. Meachum was a retired Information Technologist for the Ross Gear Division of T. R. W. in Lebanon, where he was employed for over thirty years before his retirement. He was a sports enthusiast and relished playing golf and bowling and especially was a fan of the Tennessee Titans and U. T. Vols football team and enjoyed watching all sports on television.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sharon of almost thirty-four years is a son, George Meachum and wife Ruth Meachum of White House; a granddaughter, who he adored, Camilla Elaine Meachum; sister, Cindy Meachum of Cookeville; two nephews, Wayne and Tim Allen Meachum.
