Dorothy Ruth Allen Solomon passed away at her home in Nashville on September 8, 2024, at age 96.

She was born in Bedford County, TN on July 17, 1928.

She was an Army wife for 20 years, living in Japan and Germany before settling in Bellevue, TN in 1968 when it was still “country”. She later worked at Harpeth Clock and Quilt Shop in Pegram, enjoying working there until she was 80 years old.

She was a faithful member of Bellevue Church of Christ for more than fifty-five years. She taught three-year-old children on Sunday mornings for many years, and loved keeping up with her former students as they became adults. She was especially fond of planning and participating in ladies’ events at church, whether formal, like Ladies’ Days and teacher workshops, or informal, like teas and showers. She continued to attend worship and social events until shortly before her death, and was blessed with a church family who drove her to these when she could no longer drive.

Most of all, she was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a beloved “Aunt Dot” to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Ned Solomon; by her grandson, Connor Finney; and by her parents, John and Pearl Smith Allen, and her sister, Lorraine Allen Foster.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joye and David Womack; daughters, Nedra Solomon Finney (Doug) of Franklin, TN, and Nanci Solomon of Knoxville, TN; her granddaughter, Joye-Clare Finney; great-grandsons, Blake and Bentley Finney; many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and by her truly wonderful neighbors, friends, and church family.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 14 from 10:00 to 12:00 with the Celebration of Life service following at 12:00; both will be held at Bellevue Church of Christ, 7401 Hwy 70 S, Nashville TN. Burial will follow at 2:30 at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville TN. https://www.harpethhills.com

In lieu of flowers please honor her by making contributions to New Herman Church of Christ (current attendance is 15), c/o Tony Allen, 745 Possum Trot Road, Shelbyville TN, 37160, the little country church that made her the fine Christian she was all of her life; or to AGAPE (adoption and counseling agency) who blessed her with her precious grandchildren.

Special thanks to everyone at ALIVE Hospice who made the end of her life as peaceful as she had hoped.

“I have run the great race, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. And now the prize awaits me …”
