Remembering Dorothy Pearl Owens

Family and friends still smile when they remember how Dorothy Pearl Owens’s peach cobbler and banana pudding vanished in minutes at every gathering. Dorothy left us on April 20th, 2026, in Old Hickory, Tennessee, closing 98 bright years that began on March 24th, 1928, in McGregor, Texas. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Dorothy was the daughter of Langston Lee and Ova Teal, who raised her with steady faith and kindness. Even as a young girl, her Compassionate, Kind, Confident, and Generous spirit shone for all to see.
She grew up singing in the choir and never missed a chance to dance when music played. Her brothers Adron, Jessie, and Clark and her sisters Martha, Dena, and Beda often bragged that Dorothy could light up a room with a single song.
In time she married James Owens, the partner who called her the best wife a man could ask for. James helped to raise her children Gary Young and Ralph Young, later adding Teresa a new addition to the family. Adding later to the family they welcomed daughter-in-law Joanie Young and son-in-law Kevin Rogers with his wife Cassandra to the family circle.
Dorothy’s pride shone brightest when she spoke of her grandchildren Emily Claire Rogers, Khris Young, Guy Young, and the late Jennifer Young. Each one knew that Grandma’s home always smelled of fresh bread and held a warm seat at the kitchen table.
Cooking, music, and her creating Easter seals to sell to the public filled her days, yet her kitchen was the true stage. Relatives still joke about friendly battles over the last spoonful of her famous peach cobbler, and her loyal black cats sat like royal guests while she worked in style, every outfit as fabulous as her laugh.
Dorothy’s Christian faith guided her choices, and her generous heart made room for anyone in need. She was the glamour girl who sang, danced, and rooted for her favorite teams, always making life feel like a celebration.
She is survived by her husband James, son Gary and his wife Joanie, son-in-law Kevin Rogers and his wife Cassandra, and grandchildren Emily Claire, Khris, and Guy. She is reunited in peace with her parents, all of her siblings, her son Ralph, her daughter Teresa and granddaughter Jennifer.
We will keep her songs, her recipes, and her example of kindness close to our hearts. Rest easy, Dorothy; your love stays with us every time the music plays and the cobbler comes out of the oven.
