Dorise June Turner Haynes (June 5, 1925 – November 8, 2024) of Nashville, Tennessee, was blessed to Life Everlasting.

Dorise was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to the late Rev. John Henry Turner and Ida Goodrich Turner. Rev. Turner was a Southern Baptist preacher, and as he ministered, the family moved several times to other cities in Arkansas and western Tennessee during Dorise’s younger years. She was the youngest of eight siblings, and her love for her brothers and sisters fostered lifelong friendships within their close-knit family.

Dorise attended Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. After settling in Nashville, she worked at the Sunday School Board, then Haynes Pharmacy, and later dedicated 25 years to the Tennessee Baptist Convention, where she retired. Part of her work involved supporting travel and missionary efforts for the TBC’s partners department. A devoted member of Woodmont Baptist Church, she especially enjoyed being part of the Koinonia Class, where she formed many precious friendships.

Dorise was loved by all who knew her. She was known for her beautiful blue eyes, her gentle smile, and her sweet, compassionate, giving nature. She had a great love for her family and was an incredibly present and involved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also loved her Woodmont Baptist Church family, and always expressed gratitude for her wonderful neighbors as well. Her love for music, birds, and wildlife was a cherished part of her daily life.

She was an avid reader and stayed keenly informed about the happenings in her beloved city of Nashville. A houseguest visiting her would never leave without receiving a map and a guide to the city’s best spots—Radnor Lake, Cheekwood, downtown Nashville, and Franklin were always at the top of the list. Dorise’s deep desire was for others to experience the joy and blessings God had bestowed upon all. This was the person she was.

A loving mother to three children, Dorise is survived by son, H. Michael Haynes (Sharon) of Franklin, TN; daughters, Leigh Ann Haynes Tweedall (John) of Farragut, TN and Nancy Katherine Haynes Crofford (David) of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren, Candice Haynes of Gallatin, TN, Chassen Haynes (Meagan) of Hendersonville, TN, Mattie Crofford Crumbo (Jed) of Nashville, TN, Morgan Crofford Garnett-Aubuchon (Kevin) of Columbus, GA, Molly Crofford Turner (Will) of Nashville, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Josh, Ava, Theodore, Margaret, Crofford, Goldie, and Lilly.

In addition to her parents, Dorise was preceded in death by her siblings: Irene, Guy, Louise, Maxine, Bill, John (Jimmy), and Paul. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews, all of whom were near and dear to her heart.

The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful healthcare teams who cared for Dorise throughout her later years.

A private graveside service will be held for the family. There will be a memorial service and reception to celebrate her beautiful life, on Tuesday, November 12th at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215. Visitation begins at 2:30 pm, and the service begins at 3:30 pm CST.
