Donald (Donny) Edward McDaniel, a native of Nashville, passed away on January 4, 2025, at the age of 81.
Don was born on September 21, 1943, in Nashville to Virginia Green and D.J. McDaniel, Jr.
He was a 1961 graduate of West End High School and attended Memphis State University after completing his six-month enlistment with the US Marine Corps at Parris Island, SC.
Don’s true passion was working with his hands which led him into drafting and architectural work. He was employed locally by several architectural firms and in 1969 he relocated to New York City and joined the Philip Johnson firm where he remained until his return to Nashville in the late 1970’s. He continued his drafting and architectural work with the local Hart Freeland and Roberts firm for several years. In the late 1980’s, Don made the decision to go into business for himself creating McDaniel & Associates (providing design and building services to the residential market) and operated this business for the next 15 years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and by his older sister, Virginia McDaniel Counter.
He is survived by his older brother, David McDaniel; his sister-in-law, Barbara McDaniel; niece, Sharon McDaniel; nephews, David (Missy) McDaniel and Todd (Maggie) Counter; along with several cousins.
A celebration of life for Donald will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 12:00 PM in the Dogwood Suites at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. Following will be graveside service with Todd Counter, Tommy Green, Skipper Johnston, David J. McDaniel III, David J.
