Colonel Robert “Bob” Rex Fray, U.S.A.F. Ret., age 81 of Nashville, Tennessee, died peacefully at home on September 28, 2022.

Bob was a U.S. Air Force pilot in the Strategic Air Command for 28 years. He was a graduate of Reitz High School, Evansville, Indiana, The University of Evansville, and received an MBA from Auburn University. He attended Air Force pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, TX. He attended Air Command and Staff College and Air War College at the Air University in Montgomery, AL.

During his Air Force career, he accumulated thousands of flight hours, primarily in the KC-135. He received many ribbons, metals and awards. These include: Vietnam Service Medal with One Star, Air Force Longevity Service Award with One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation Award.

He was an instructor pilot and served as Base Commander at Blytheville Air Force Base, AR and at Torrejón Air Force Base, Madrid, Spain.

After retiring from the Air Force, Bob worked in auditing for the State of Indiana for 17 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hugh Sidney and Esther Mahrenholz Fray.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lori Perkins Fray; and his two daughters that were his proudest achievements, Traci Denton (Denny Denton, deceased), Sonya Bowyer (Theodore Bowyer); his six grandsons, Chase Denton, Bryce Denton, Joseph Bowyer, Zachary Bowyer, Zane Denton and Myles Denton. He is also survived by his sister, Terry Boren (Ron Boren).

Visitation will be Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon with memorial service following at Noon at Christ Church, Nashville, 15354 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville TN. Graveside service with Full Military Honors will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Memorial Gardens. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
