Clifford Melvin Dobbs, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at the age of 88.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Lois Woodward Dobbs, and children, Mark Clifford Dobbs and Amy Dobbs Walker, of Nashville, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Melvin Dobbs, Sr. and Margret Letha Cooper Dobbs, brother Harold Dobbs, sisters Gail Dobbs Martin and Sarah Dobbs Floyd, and son, Joseph Tyron Dobbs.
Clifford was born on May 12, 1936, in Bethpage, TN.
He graduated from Gallatin High School in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Woodward, on October 21, 1955. They were married 68 years and had 3 children. Clifford graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1963 with a B.A. in Speech and Religious Education.
In 1981 he received a Master’s degree from the Alabama Christian School of Religion. While attending Lipscomb and working at H.G. Hills in Nashville, he also preached at Corinth Church of Christ. In 1963, he began preaching at the Watauga Street Church (Northeast Church of Christ) in Kingsport, TN, before returning to Nashville, where he was with West Nashville Heights congregation from 1973 until 1988. He later served as the preacher and an elder for Old Charlotte Road Church of Christ for 20 years before becoming an associate minister and elder at the Charlotte Heights congregation until his retirement.
He was a dedicated member of the Nashville Community and one time president of the Citizens for Decency Through Law organization and an active member of the Sertoma Club.
Clifford was passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus and taught many people about the love of God. He was a kind, patient, and loving man who showed the unconditional love and grace of Christ Jesus to everyone. He was a preacher for over 60 years and an elder of the church for many years.
Visitation with the Dobbs family will be on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1 PM until 4 PM, at Bellevue Church of Christ, then again on Sunday, October 6th from 1 PM until 2 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM at Bellevue Church of Christ. A private family interment will take place at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
