A decorated U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Charles (Chuck) McCrary, of the Plunketts Creek Community died peacefully with his family present at the family’s Dale Lane home on Thursday morning February 20, 2025. He was pronounced deceased at the age of 66 at 9:08 a.m. at the Highpoint – Health Riverview Emergency Room. He had been under the care of Gentiva Hospice of Livingston.
Memorial services with Military Honors are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon March 2nd from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with his Pastor and fellow veteran Bro. Donnie Payne officiating.
A burial will be at a later date in the Roe Cemetery in the Rick City Community.
Military chapel services will be by American Legion Post # 57 of Carthage.
The McCrary family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Sunday March 2nd from 12 noon until the 3:00 p.m. memorial service.
Mr. McCrary was a member of the American Legion Post # 57 of Carthage and a member of the funeral detail.
He was a recipient of his General Education Degree.
Born Charles Arnold McCrary on February 4, 1959 in Glasgow in Valley County, Montana, he was one of three sons of Charles McCrary and Lois Nichols McCrary of Lebanon. Glasgow, Montana is ranked as the most isolated town of the contiguous states in the U. S. A.
At the Lock 7 Park on August 31, 1986, Chuck was united in marriage by then Smith County Commissioner Jerry Gibbs to Rock City Community native, the former Janice Ellamai Carr.
Mr. McCrary proudly served our country with the United States Army having been inducted at Fort Campbell, Kentucky on August 31, 1977, post-Vietnam, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on August 26, 1980.
Of his total service of two years, eleven months and twenty-six days, his overseas assignment was two years, five months and twenty days. His primary specialty was a cannon crewman.
For his meritorious service he was awarded an Air Assault Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with and M-16 Rifle Bar, and a Sharpshooter Badge with a Hand Grenade Bar.
He placed membership on January 16, 2019 with the Carthage Road Baptist Church.
Mr. McCrary was a construction worker with Conrad Construction Co. In Lebanon and with Stover.
Surviving in addition to his parents, Charles and Lois and wife Janice of over thirty-eight years are two children, Misty Banks and husband Tim, Dewayne Hunter and wife Denice, all of the Rome Community; siblings, Eddie McCrary and wife Debbie of Hartsville, Denise Rowland of Missouri; seven grandchildren, Austin Denney and wife Bren, Nikki Jackson and husband Zac, Cody Hunter, Johnnie Zeigler and wife Criston, Kristen Denney, Serenity Zeigler and Aubrey Denney; eight great-grandchildren.
