Celebrating the vibrant life of William “Bill” Odell Burnett, Jr., who passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2025 in his hometown of Nashville, TN. Born on September 26th, 1935, in Nashville, Bill cultivated a life rich with hard work, love, and dedication.
His hands were never idle; his love for gardening brought forth bountiful harvests of tomatoes, okra, green beans, and squash. His creative spirit shone not just in his garden but also in his adeptness with handyman chores around the house. A loyal fan of the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys, Bill relished watching sports on television, cheering enthusiastically for his teams.
His passion for sports was matched by his interest in current events, often found immersed in newspapers and later exploring news on his new computer. His favorite things included outdoor activities, watching sports, and reading.
For 15 wonderful years, Bill and Ella, his partner in life and love, found joy in working out together at the YMCA in Donelson, strengthening both their health and their bond. He cherished spending time with his family during holidays and special occasions, especially around shared meals.
Bill’s key personality traits – hardworking, loyal, responsible, determined, and creative – left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a steadfast supporter of his loved ones, embodying the essence of dedication and love.
Today, we celebrate Bill’s beautiful life, honoring the joyful memories he created and the loving legacy he leaves behind. His spirit lives on in the gardens he nurtured, the family he supported, and the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those who have passed on before him are his parents, William Sr. and Zettie Burnett, son, Charles Edward Burnett, and infant daughter. He is survived by loving wife of 64 years, Ella J. Burnett, daughter, Debbie (Bill) MacDonald, grandchildren, Dylan MacDonald, Jared (Abigail) MacDonald, Samantha (Caleb) Pipes, great-grand child, Ellie Mae Pipes, sisters, Ann Blaine, Linda (Butch) Hanner, and Bonnie Harrah, a multitude of nieces and nephews.
