Anna Ley Ingraham

Anna Ley Ingraham passed at 2:20 pm on Wednesday, 2/2/22.

Born in Nashville, TN, she was raised in Brentwood.

Mrs. Huggins was Anna Ley’s Physical Education Teacher her Senior Year at Peabody Demonstration School. She allowed Anna Ley to teach the last class of the day every day so she could sit down and rest. That’s when Anna Ley knew that she definitely wanted to become a Physical Education Teacher. She attended and graduated from Peabody College with her Teaching Certificate.

She then moved to Clovis, New Mexico where she taught Physical Education at Clovis Junior High School for three years. Dr. R. Kelly White called her and asked her to move back to Nashville to teach Physical Education at Belmont College. While teaching at Belmont College, she acquired her Master’s Degree in Physical Education. She then moved to Houston to teach Physical Education at Houston Baptist College.

She made the choice to return to Nashville when her mother became ill and taught Physical Education at Peabody College and then Vanderbilt University, where many athletes were thankful for her ability to tutor them as well as teach them Physical Education.

Retiring from Vanderbilt, she stayed in Nashville as she had been a long-time member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church and then Brentwood Baptist Church. She was a long-time choir member, Sunday school teacher of both children and adults, as well as active in many church ministries. Her smile, joyous spirit, and loving, peaceful demeanor brought joy and happiness to all that she knew. You could always count on her to be your prayer warrior and show encouragement. She loved freely, gave whole-heartedly, and lived fully.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Sybil Ingraham; sister Marcia Lou Ingraham Durham, and sister-in-law Frances Ingraham.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Ingraham; loving nieces and nephews, Cynthia Markle, Glynnis (Compton) Coleman, Jesse (Sandra) Durham, Susan Ingraham, Marianna Ingraham (Jim) Wilson; as well as beloved great-nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful to all the caregivers for the care and love shown to Anna Ley over the last several years.

Visitation for Anna Ley will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 3-4 pm in the Chapel of Brentwood Baptist Church with Celebration of Life Service following at 4 pm. A burial will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 2 pm at the Tap Root Farm Cemetery, 4099 Clovercroft Rd. Franklin, TN 37067.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Brentwood Baptist Church Choir.
