Ann Glenn Hayes, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 with her loving family by her side.
Ann was born on December 3, 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a graduate of both Harpeth Hall School and Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, she met the love of her life, Larry Hayes, Sr., to whom she was married for 56 years before his passing in 2017. Ann was the epitome of a Southern lady, both stylish and classy, but with a dash of sass. She truly had a beautiful soul. No matter the occasion, Ann always knew exactly what to say, and no one ever heard an ugly or unkind word fall from her lips.
She had wide-ranging and varied interests, from playing competitive tennis in her younger years to immersing herself in creative arts later in life. She developed a passion for collecting hand-made Appalachia quilts and coverlets. She amassed an extensive collection of these from the 1800s and was recognized as an expert. She often gave lectures throughout the Southeast, where she was able to display her collection and share this love with others.
Her life was one of constant giving, and she gave of herself completely to her family and every one she encountered. Simply stated, to meet Ann was to fall in love with her. She cherished community with others, and loved socializing with her friends at the Centennial Club and her many local sisters in Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Vanderbilt, where she was instrumental in founding the annual Christmas Village. She was involved in numerous other clubs and groups throughout Nashville.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Ann is survived by her daughter, Melissa Hayes Baker (Robbie) of Mobile, Alabama, and her son, Larry Hayes, Jr. (Sheryl) of Nashville; and four beautiful grandchildren, Hannah L. Hayes, of West Palm Beach, Florida; Larry Hayes, III, of Nashville, Eleanor E. Baker and Robert H. Baker, both of Mobile, Alabama.
Ann’s family would like to send a special message of thanks to Dr. John Peach at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the countless hours of love and guidance that he provided Ann and the family over the last five years. In addition, we would like to thank everyone at Belmont Village Green Hills for their amazing love and care.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
