What began as a routine citizen-assist call turned into a successful animal rescue for Nashville firefighters after crews discovered a dog trapped between two buildings for several days.

According to the Nashville Fire Department, crews with Engine 31 responded on Sunday and found a dog wedged tightly between two buildings. The reporting party told firefighters the animal had reportedly been trapped for two days.

Police said Captain William “Joey” Wilson contacted the property owner and obtained permission to remove concrete blocks from inside the building to reach the dog. Firefighters with Engine 31 and Rescue 1 then worked together to carefully breach the wall and safely free the animal without injury.

The department said personnel involved included Captain William “Joey” Wilson, Engineer Dustin Townsend, and Firefighter Jake Ghee with Engine 31, along with Captain Chris Claibourne, Engineer Josh Payne, and Firefighter John Bolen with Rescue 1.

The dog was turned over to Metro Animal Care and Control, where officials hope it will be reunited with its owner or placed in a new home if an owner cannot be located.
