Man Shot, Killed by MNPD Officer After Approaching With Weapon Drawn

June 9, 2025 – An armed man was shot and killed by a Metro Nashville Police Department officer Monday after reportedly approaching the officer with a pistol drawn.

The incident happened on Hermitage Avenue near Lea Avenue. According to MNPD, the officer encountered the man, who then advanced toward him while holding a handgun. The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

The unidentified man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The officer was not injured in the encounter.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is expected to handle the investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. No further details have been released at this time.
