Man Facing Several Charges in February Shooting, Retail Crime

June 24, 2025 – Convicted felon Cedric Hayes, 34, faces weapon and theft charges following his arrest Monday on outstanding warrants related to a shooting and retail crime.

Specialized Investigations Division detectives yesterday located Hayes near 9th Avenue North and Cheatham Place driving a Nissan SUV. He refused to stop after officers activated their emergency equipment. A police helicopter followed the vehicle, which had three children in the back seat, ages 4, 3, and 1. Hayes drove to Delta Avenue where he got out of the Nissan and walked to another vehicle where he got into the passenger seat. That driver left but stopped on Rosa Parks Boulevard where Hayes fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended.

Investigation by Non-lethal Shooting detectives resulted in warrants being issued in relation to a February 5th shooting in the 3500 block of Albee Drive where Hayes was shot in the arm during an exchange of gunfire. A gun was recovered from his jacket. Hayes is believed to have been selling firearms at the time.

Warrants were also issued for Hayes for his involvement in a March 11, 2024, shoplifting from HomeGoods on Sawyer Brown Road.

In all, Hayes is charged with felon in possession of a gun, making a false report, two counts of evading arrest, three counts of child endangerment, organized retail crime, and theft. He is being held on $26,000 bond.

Hayes has prior felony convictions in Wilson, Rutherford, and Davidson Counties, including theft of property, auto burglary, 3rd offense drug possession, evading arrest, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and identify theft.
