The man fatally injured Tuesday at 6:15 a.m. in a two-vehicle collision on I-24 East between Haywood Lane and Bell Road is identified as Davis Avent, 29, of Nashville.
The preliminary investigation shows that Avent was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima east on I-24 when he lost control of the car and struck the concrete retaining wall. After striking the retaining wall, the Altima re-entered the east bound lanes of travel and was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Eric Baughman, 46, of Wichita, Kansas.
There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement in this fatal crash.
The preliminary contributing factor to this fatal crash appears to be speed too fast for road conditions on the part of Avent.
