January 21, 2025 – The driver of a Buick sedan responsible for the August 18 double fatal crash on I-40 West near the Bellevue Newsom Station exit has been arrested for vehicular homicide. Delmas Wiseman, 45, was traveling eastbound when he lost control of the Buick and crossed over the median and into the westbound lanes of travel where he struck a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, Jacob Rhea, 30, died at the scene. His 3-year-old daughter, who was not in a child safety seat in the backseat of the Buick, was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she died.

Two other juveniles, ages 5 and 6, were also transported to Vanderbilt with non-life threatening injuries.

Evidence collected from the Buick showed Wiseman only hit the brakes for one second then let off prior to the crash. He also did not appear to make any attempts to control his vehicle before entering into oncoming traffic.

Based on his actions, Traffic Unit investigators obtained four warrants, including two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness and two counts of child endangerment. Wiseman was arrested on Sunday morning.

He remains jailed today in lieu of $70,000 bond.
