Diwali, the Hindu celebration of lights, is right around the corner on Monday, Oct. 20, and cafe babu and Chauhan Ale & Masala House are coming together to honor the holiday in a special way. The two Indian-inspired restaurants have partnered to create a turmeric latte in celebration of the Hindu new year. The babu x Chauhan festive drink will be available in both spiked and nonalcoholic versions at both establishments.
For both Shivani Darsinos, founder of cafe babu, and Maneet Chauhan, co-owner and executive chef of Chauhan Ale & Masala House, this collaboration is deeply personal. Their Indian heritage lies at the heart of everything they do, from the flavors they craft to the sense of community they build.
“This collaboration is truly a dream come true for me,” says Shivani. “Maneet has been an inspiration and idol. To be able to work with someone who has paved the way for Indian women in hospitality is incredibly special, and I’m honored to be launching a collaboration especially during this season for Diwali.”
The babu x Chauhan turmeric latte will be available from Friday, Oct. 17, to Saturday, Nov. 1. This recipe combines turmeric, fresh ginger, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, and saffron mixed with milk and water, then sweetened with honey. The alcoholic version of the latte adds spiced rum.
