The elderly man killed in Thursday’s 12:30 p.m. two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 70 and McCrory Lane is identified as Charles Spurgin Sr., 90, of Nashville.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet Impala, John White, 72, was traveling north on Highway 70 through the intersection when Spurgin, who was driving a 2001 Toyota RAV4, attempted to turn left onto McCrory Lane from Highway 70. White collided with the passenger side of Spurgin’s vehicle. Spurgin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died. White, who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene. It appears that White had the right of way prior to the collision.
