August 19, 2025 – A 17-year-old Maplewood High School student was arrested this morning after a loaded handgun was found in his backpack as he went through the Evolv detection system upon arrival into the building. The student initially stated he believed it was his laptop that caused the alert, but school staff searched his backpack and located the weapon.
The student denied ownership and refused to answer questions about how he came into possession of the gun. He was charged with bringing a gun on school property and juvenile weapon possession.
