During the 2024 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Fill the Boot campaign, the dedicated members of the Nashville Fire Department and IAFF Local 140 continued a 70-year tradition of raising funds to support MDA’s mission to accelerate research, advance care, and advocate for the support of families living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.

MDA is proud to share that, with the incredible support of our community, the Nashville Fire Department and Local 140 raised over $133,000 during their 2024 Fill the Boot campaign.

This outstanding effort ranks them 5th in the nation and 1st in the state of Tennessee, holding on to the TN Golden Axe Award for funds raised.

Top Fundraisers for NFD: Fire Station #21 C-Shift raised $5,642. The Nashville Fire Department’s Fire Marshal Office raised $10,000.

“For seven decades, fire fighters have proudly supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s mission to help families live longer, stronger lives, and we are honored to be a part of this tradition. We are so grateful for the generosity and support from those in the community. The Nashville Fire Department will continue this legacy this fall by helping to raise funds for life-changing research and care,” Director Chief William Swann said.

Funds raised through Nashville Fill the Boot events go towards groundbreaking research, life-enhancing educational programs, a resource center, and support for multi-disciplinary medical teams at the MDA Care Center. They also help send local kids to a transformative experience at MDA Summer Camp—all at no cost to families. MDA and IAFF also collaborate to raise awareness and provide resources for fire fighters impacted by ALS.
